The Foundation & Its Executive

Meet Angela Hongo, Founder of The Flemister Foundation NFP.

God blessed us with 17 years of life with Boaz, but his legacy will live for more than 17 centuries to help other youth fulfill their dreams.

The Flemister Foundation NFP is a Chicago based nonprofit that acts as liaison for approximately 200 dance groups across the city, in cooperation with The Bud Billiken Charities, which operates the largest African American parade in the United States. We host year round fundraising events to keep youth in positive activities, generate resources that advance their educational goals, help owners locate funds for competitions, and offer mental health services and summits that keep our community aligned and supported.

Angela leads that mission. With more than 25 years of executive leadership across corporate and nonprofit sectors, she has built a career on strategic planning, fiscal stewardship, and collaborative decision making, bringing people together to solve complex challenges and develop sustainable solutions for long term community growth. She coaches CEOs on business models that unlock funding and sponsorship, and her longstanding knowledge of the dance community, coupled with her corporate experience, is invaluable to the Foundation’s work of stewarding youth in the arts.

Boaz’s Story

The heartbeat behind The Flemister Foundation.

God blessed us with 17 years of life with Boaz, but his legacy will live for more than 17 centuries to help other youth fulfill their dreams.

Boaz was a light. A young Chicago artist whose love for music, movement, and community pulled everyone around him upward. The Flemister Foundation was born to make sure his spirit keeps reaching every dancer, every drummer, and every dreamer growing up in the neighborhoods he loved.

His story is one of joy interrupted by tragedy, and of a family choosing to answer that grief with a mission: fund the arts, protect youth mental health, and build a platform that carries his name forward — long after the pain, and long into the future.

A fuller tribute — with family photos, videos, and testimonials — will be added to this space soon.
